The Following instructions are recommended for optimal study results: However, if you have special needs or are unable to follow these instructions please contact our offices.

GI/Fluoro Exam Preps
Adult Air Contrast Barium Enema: Fleet prep kit; follow 48 hour instructions
IVP: Fleet Prep Kit #2; follow 24 hour instructions; nothing by mouth 4-6 hours prior to exam
Upper G.I./Small Bowel: No food, drinks or smoking 8 hours prior to the exam

Ultrasound Exam Preps
Abdomen /Gallbladder/Pancreas/Liver/Spleen/Aorta: Nothing to eat or drink eight hours before testing
Renal/Breast/Thyroid: No prep
Pelvic/Pregnancy: Drink 32 ounces of water two hours before time of exam; do not empty bladder prior to exam;
full bladder is necessary for this exam

Mammogram Prep
Do not wear deodorant, powder, lotion or perfume on the day of the exam. Please bring previous exams.

Nuclear Medicine/Cardiology Exam Preps
Call prior to exam for appropriate instructions

(CT) Computed Tomography Exam Preps
Head/Chest/Neck: No food or drinks at least 4-6 hours prior to exam; please bring most recent chest x-ray for chest scans
Abdomen/Pelvis: No food or drinks 4-6 hours prior to exam; Drink one bottle of Prepcat the night before the exam;
+ 1 bottle one hour before exam. Prepcat is available from your physician or Dayton Medical Imaging
Lumbar/Cervical/Foot/Ankle/Knee/Hip: Please bring most recent x-rays for exam, no prep

MRI: No preparation necessary

MRA: Call for prep

PLEASE CONTACT DMI IF YOU HAVE A HISTORY OF IODINE/CONTRAST ALLERGIES

• Do not take laxatives in case of possible bowel obstruction or appendicitis
• Medications may be taken with small amount of water
• Check with us or your physician if you have any questions
• Call for pediatric preps
